Hoppers on left/right side do not fill tanks

According to the wiki:
- Inserting and extracting items from base backpack inventory - input is on the top, output is on the bottom of the backpack.
- Inserting and extracting fluid from fluid tanks:
- Left Tank - input and output is on the left side of the tank.
- Right Tank - input and output is on the right side of the tank.
However, when I place a hopper to the side of a backpack with a fluid tanks upgrade, and place a potion or a bucket of water in the hopper, the item goes into the backpack. If the backpack is full, it stays in the hopper. This is true whether the tanks are partially filled with that liquid or completely empty.
As far as I can tell, there is no way to automate filling of tanks in this mod in any way. This is a shame because the tanks so annoying to fill up, so without automation this is going to be a feature I never use.
I'm curious, is there any mod that allows filling up the tank by placing item like water bucket in hopper?
The backpacks can be filled with fluid by using pipes that's for sure but hoppers transfer items only that's why it goes into backpack storage
I see, so this functionality requires other mods? For instance, you'd expect it to be compatible with e.g. https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/simplepipes ?
Yes, backpack should be compatible with any mod that add pipes and inserting/extracting fluid to/from the backpack fluid tanks with them should be possible
From what I know - vanilla minecraft do not give any solution to transfer fluids
