Weird Visual glitch with Chests

In 1.16 you can now place normal chests next to each other. If they're facing different ways, they dont connect. On the server, I've placed a chest, and another facing a different way, they dont connect (just like theyre not supposed to) But theres a weird double chest visual affect that appears because of this.
My server is running 1.13.2 and im on a 1.8.9 client.
How can we reproduce it?
Run a server on 1.13.2
Join with a 1.8.9 client
Place a chest, then walk to the side and place a chest facing away from the side of the chest.
Expected behaviour
For the chests either to connect, or not to, but the visual glitch is unexpected.

I use Bungee to run the server, I have ViaVersion, ViaRewind, ViaRewindLegacySupport, ViaBackwards
