Received invalid discriminator byte 6 on channel waystones:network

I'm running waystones 8.2.0 in MC 1.17.1 (Forge 37.0.109)
Converted from survival single player to survival multiplayer, when I click on a waystones related UI button (setting name, selecting destination, etc) I get in the server log "Received invalid discriminator byte 6 on channel waystones:network" and nothing happens in-game.

Fixed in Balm 2.2.0 (Minecraft 1.18) and 1.8.2 (backported to Minecraft 1.17)

What version is installed on the client vs. server? (including Balm version)

Waystone v8.2.0 on both client and server
Balm v1.8.0 on both

I occasionally got this too on byte 7, but (maybe unrelated) sometimes client fails to load plugin altogether and crashes to forge mod load failuer screen.
Is there any way to debug this?

Same here, while giving a name to waystone it prints following in server log stream:

Received invalid discriminator byte 1 on channel waystones:network

MC 1.18
waystones-forge-1.18-9.0.0
balm-2.1.0+0
