I tried to craft a pickaxe with 2 Jungle Sticks and 3 Jungle Planks, but it didn't work. I had to convert the Jungle sticks into regular Sticks just so I could make a pickaxe. I think that this should be changed to where you do not need to do this extra step. Maybe even make wood-dependent pickaxes/axes/hoes/bows/crossbows/etc?
