I don't know why it is doing this, I have the mod just by itself with coroutil as well. Also a quick question, where is the advanced settings menu in the GUI?

Advanced settings available via /config command, readded the button in unreleased dev version.

Also to help me test for constant lightning and thunder, give me the world seed and coordinates you are at where it happens, might just be the biome placement. Also a list of mods would help.

This is probably just due to how the mod was designed, some areas are more prone to it, and playing on a recent 1.7.10 server I have had an annoying amount of constant thunderstorms happening sometimes, but sometimes not for a long time too.

If some other design changes I have don't pan out, I'm going to consider more configuration to limit frequency of them in addition to the current random chance configuration.
