Using Yung's Better Fortress version 2.0.5 for forge 1.20.1.

Are you sure? I've just tested and I'm unable to recreate the issue. I get the advancement right away when teleporting to a Better Fortress.

Cannot reproduce, however I did land here after adding this mod to Create: Mekanized (my own local customisation) and was unable to complete the task to find a fortress. It is looking specifically for me to discover a minecraft:fortress structure. Would I be correct in assuming that this mod registers the fortress under a different structure ID? If so, it would be great to know it so that I can update the KubeJS configs :)

Answering my own question: The quest system provides a list of structure names and sure enough betterfortresses:fortress is one of them. Switched the quest to that and problem solved. :)
