Describe your issue

Sorry to open up more issues, but there seems to be quite a severe memory leak as I play. Even though the client is hard set to 10gb, it ramps and ramps until finally reaching 20gb and my system just can't handle it, as the server is taking 8gb and my OS+ various programs take the rest of the 4gb. I can't provide crash logs, as I need to hard reboot every time.

I'm unsure if its something related to the pack, or if its because I'm using OpenJDK17 on Arch. The server itself actually maintains within 8G just fine (I mistakenly thought it was the server at first). This happens to me in single player or when joining my server. I've tried using the recommended java arguments on the client (the server is running them), but there's no difference.

I wish I could get a crash log to you. I had an out-of-memory crash once, but the logs are basically blank.

Steps to reproduce the issue

  1. Run on Arch Linux.
  2. Use OpenJDK17
  3. Play for a couple hours and check memory.

Additional Information

I would provide logs here if I could. I'm trying out a couple fixes right now to see if they work, and will update this issue if I can find one. I'll also update with a crash log if I can get one. I'm first trying a full reinstall and if that doesn't work I'll try again without shaders installed.

Reinstalling and removing shaders did not work. Attempting another launcher. Will post update tomorrow.

Switching to ATLauncher had no effect. Now working on disabling some of the memory fixes to see if they don't work well with Linux. Will update today. It takes some time as I have to let the game run for a while to properly get an idea if it's going to crash or not.

So far, I may have pinpointed the problem. The FTB Quests Fix is actually more detrimental than helpful, at least in my case. It causes long world load times, longer pack startup, and when I disabled it the questbook opened faster than normal, albeit a tiny freeze first.

The pack does still ramp in RAM a little, but I think it stays within lower boundaries, not causing me to max out and crash. I'll be back after some more playtesting, but so far so good.

I don't want to jump to conclusions, but I've run for 4 hours now (2 hours over my usual crash time) and have not crashed. Memory stays within limits. I would say that it ran just a bit too much for a server and a client, but it would leak RAM and freeze in single player mode as well, when it was nowhere near my RAM limit.

I do want to add that removing it had no negative effects for me. I still stand by my previous statement, though; it just runs better for me without that one mod. That's the only mod that is disabled right now. I'll close this issue, but if I have further problems with this I'll use this thread.

And as soon as I said it, it leaked up to 21gb and froze. Will keep tinkering.

I haven't seen any sort of performance impact. I used to make custom modlist servers back in 1.7, and from my experience a lot of these performance mods are just snake oil and some will cause adverse affects, especially when you pile them on each other.

I the RAM ramped up to 18.2gb and froze, but instead of crashing or needing to restart, it unfroze after a minute and finally released some RAM, which it didn't do before. Dunno, will keep trying things, but the RAM is significantly lower. I would hit 20gb in a couple hours, now I can run around the world for 4+ hours and it only hits 18ish.

Edit: I want to add that my gf has 16gb and she can run the pack as long as she wants, so these mod fixes probably work with Windows.
