What happened?

so while using the witchery mod, i was able to get as far as creating the distillery and went to use it, but even with an altar with a wither skull on it and several plants and trees around it, the distillery will not function and distill any of its drops, effectively making the poppets unusable, if ive missed something my bad but after constant searching online ive found nothing
