Are you by chance using Optifine? I'm running 0.2.20b without optifine and I can see the items just fine.
And if you are using - no, I don't have a fix :p other than removing the mod

Yeah I do. Well I need optifine so I can live with that small visual bug. Can't wait for updated ports of Sodium and Iris to finally kick optifine out.

In general, if it happens with optifine and doesn't happen without it, you shouldn't post it on the issue tracker - since it's almost guaranteed to be an optifine-caused issue.
