On a server, I was only with some effects to see any ores.
The effects expired correctly at the end of the time, but when a friend joined the server, I ate lollipops to get effects, and the effects have not expired at the end of the time. Additionnaly,

I also got effects that allowed me to see copper ores and coal ores with the GoldSight effect, these effects were the ones I had previously before my friend joined.

This is happening to me as well. Potion effects from Ore Sights also last forever. Actually, in some cases I have to close the client and open it again, because only logging back into of the server is not enough.

To explain this a lit more, this also happens with friends, but with a very weird interaction. For example, a friend of ours, eat 32 lollipops (those from Halloween, which give you a random buff effect). He got Sight vision of around 9 ores. By teleporting near me and another friend, all of us got sight of ALL those ores in our clients. His effects vanished after some time, me and our other friend couldn't do anything other than re-launching Minecraft, since it would never expire.

Sometimes it also fails completely to expire and you get sight forever, even if you're alone.
