newly discovered chunks have not loaded and caused giant vertical cliffs in my world. i created a new world when the game stated that a new world would have to be created in order to play the latest versions of the game which i did. since then ive been playing on the latest version and this issue has happened several times throughout the world.

Chunk generation cliffs are usually (in my experience) related to the seed changing for whatever reason. I'm not sure if there's a fix for single player, but for servers, setting the seed in the server properties file can prevent that
