I found a diamond pickaxe with mending on it.
Was pretty happy with it until I noticed it won't use any of my exp to repair. Its now at 2 durability and I have plenty of experience.

Mending only works when you collect new XP while the item is in your mainhand, offhand, or armor slots.
You will need a way to drain the XP you already have collected and re-collect that XP if you want to use it to mend your gear.

Examples:

• XP Drain Singularity Tank attached to an Experience Tap
• Sophisticated Backpacks: Tank Upgrade + Experience Pump Upgrade (the upgrade has built-in Mending capabilities)
