What happened?

I used a waystone in the nether to teleport to the overworld while on a sticky broom that was carrying a foxhound, and when I arrived in the overworld, I was standing and there was a broom attached to the waystone on the overworld. That broom was interactive, and I could try to ride it and it went into my inventory and charged up like a normal broom and I now have two brooms. The broom that got duplicated seemed to be a default placeholder broom - wheat brush, dark stone cap, wooden rod.
