What happened?

I went to a friends base to eat new foods to increase my health like i had done 30 minutes prior. i went to stand in fire, like i did last time, to lose hunger so i could eat, but this time i wasn't taking damage or losing hunger. i even tried taking off my armor and accessories, nothing worked. I tried going into and out of creative, changing the world difficulty, using /kill (this killed me), relogging, uninstalling and reinstalling the mod, going into and out of /god, nothing seems to work. any help is much appreciated.
