Assembly line issues

So I built an assembly line for precision mechanisms in my survival world. I have the gold plates, as called for by the JEI recipe, and three deployers in a row, each with (in order) some cogwheels, some large cogwheels, and some iron nuggets in their hands. I have tried the hands in the position in the JEI recipe, and in the other position, with the same result.

My belt is going slower than my deployers, because before the deployers weren't even stopping the gold plates at all.

Watched a video and found out I needed to run it through five times, and I set up a weighted ejector to launch the unfinished items back to the start of the belt, which works fine.

Now, the deployers manage to stop the gold sheets on the belt when they get to them, but when they "deploy" their held items, nothing happens. The held items are not used, no matter how many times I have sent them through. The gold plates come out the other end as gold plates. I have double checked the order of item deployment multiple times, and it's still correct. So I can't progress any further without cheating because I can't make these things any other way.

Another issue I am having with assembly lines is trying to cook down the algal blend into bricks after mixing them in a mixer in an assembly line. I have a bulk blasting setup, with an iron bar holding the lava back one block up so I can see what's on the belts and monitor things, and it's blowing heated air onto the belt. Bulk blasting works when I do it horizontally, still with iron bars in front of the lava, even with stuff two blocks in front of the bars (making it three blocks from the lava). I can cook the algal blend down into bricks this way just fine. But on the assembly line, the algal blend doesn't even get paused to be cooked before it is taken along to the line meant for the bricks, and they get pushed into the mixer I have ready to make andesite alloy. This is in the same factory as my other assembly line.

I have things sped up enough to mix and deploy and press and blast and all manner of things, but no changes are happening to my items when on the belts.

The third issue I'm having is that bulk washing sand isn't working. I have the same horizontal bulk washing setup as I do for bulk blasting, with items sitting on depots in front of the water. The fans are blowing water, but nothing is happening to the sand. It isn't turning into clay the way I was told it would. So I'm confused, because bulk blasting seems to work on pretty much everything (that isn't on a belt). I still have the particle effects of the fan blowing towards the items, just nothing happens to them.
