Is the cage not supposed to actually pick up mobs? Are there other ways to transport mobs if it is intentional?

I have been able to pick up chickens, rabbit, foxes and bees with supplementaries cages in C:A&B v1.3

They are specifically for picking up small mobs, not just any mob.
