Describe the Bug

Neither the sound of Thunder follwing the lightning can be heard nor the abient sound for cogs and machinery running.
I have turned the option in the ingame config menu on and off for the latter and even tried different numbers for the valume in the same menu, but I only sometimes hear the cog sound when exiting said menu into the esc-menu. Resuming to play after that by pressying "back to game" or esc again, stops the sound in that case.

Thinking it had something to do with other profiles in curseforge where I temorarily muted the same sound in a different modpack I went ahead and tried to undo it, even deleted all the profiles (and their backups) and reinstalled only create above and beyond to no avail.

Reproduction Steps

1. Load any world
2. build a create contraption with cogs or wait for/switch to "thunder" weather
3. observe no sound for either of the above
   (4. check ingame create menu for client settings -> Sound -> Enable Ambient Sounds ✅)

Expected Result

Sound of distant thunder and the rumbling of machinery when appropriate.

Additional Context

This is now about a year old, but at least I found a solution to part of the problem:
the mod "bad wither no cookie" mutes thunder by default for some reason. This can be changed in the config.
No luck so far with the rumbling sound of cogs that should play whenever machinery is around and the option is ticked to play it though
