ive considered maybe dropping them into mana pools for max purity and cuttinf in exchange for mana

There is no need for this as you can automate perfect crystals with Integrated Dynamics. Just search it on YT (I think Direwolf20 did it a few times, so there shouldn't be a problem finding a solution) or figure it out yourself if that is more fun to you ;)
In general, as a tip, Integrated Dynamics (with Integrated Tunnels) can do a lot of amazing stuff!
