[0.4.8] Vanilla saplings doesn't grow like in vanilla

Because vanilla saplings are modified and don't grow in a vanilla way, it is not possible to build things that depend on that behavior, like a botania tree farm.

Nature's Aura is somewhat broken because you have to keep growing the oak tree until it grows in the "vanilla way" for the ritual to succeed.

I am in a savanna scrub, I don't know if it is relevant.

I've atleast confirmed that the sapling spawning looks unchanged in desert biomes.

Tried on Desert and didn't work. Did you try many times to see if it was consistent?

Also tried on these biomes:
Seasonal Deciduous Forest
Baobab Savanna
Boreal Forest
Weeping Witch Clearing
Boreal Clearing

Hmm I must've gotten lucky, got 5 very vanilla looking oak trees in a row, but my lucky streak has ended :P

Been running into this rarely in crag gardens.

I'm getting the feeling it's less biome dependant where they grow.

The ones that consistently fail for Nature's Aura are the tiny oaks that have a central trunk that's only one block high with a few 'branches' in the leaves. These are shorter than anything vanilla makes and I'm thinking NA just has a height limit on its detection.

Other than these, I've had plenty of whacky oaks grow without issue.

Thanks for the report! I believe the special tree growth is tied to the biome, but I'm not certain. I'll do a little testing and see for myself :)

The custom vanilla trees are done by terraforged, and this includes sapling growth... The datapacks for these trees can be found here: https://github.com/TerraForged/TerraForged/tree/0.2.x/src/main/resources/data/terraforged

Might be able to make sapling datapacks that make vanilla trees instead of the custom ones..

The other option would be to disable custom decorators in the TF preset, but this would not affect current worlds, and would disable the custom trees from world gen as well, I'm not sure what else this would disable

As far as I remember from when we had this issue on E5, the actual thing NA checks for is the tree growth event.

The old issue on the TF tracker is gone, since they moved their tracker and closed the old one.

I deleted the json for the oak sapling (oak_sapling.json) inside the terraformed jar just to test and it seems to fix the issue.
The generation of trees in new chunks seems to be the same, including special oak trees.
I don't know if there is a way to disabling this using a config.

I believe the cause of this issue is actually BYG, I've relayed to them. TF should not interfere with NA anymore.
