Describe the bug
No matter how many times I place one down or on what block, the block absorber only absorbs air, and it does so in an instant.

I relayed the issue, thanks for the report :)

So far, unable to be reproduced outside the modpack

We modified the Powah, Quark and Thermal jsons, and added one for Emendatus Enigmatica: https://github.com/NillerMedDild/Enigmatica6/tree/develop/config/rftoolsdim

This actually may be the cause. I just realized all the blocks I'd been testing it on were every metal block from Emendatus Enigmatica. I just now tested on dirt and a few vanilla blocks and works fine on those. I didn't realize till you mentioned the mod, and I remember seeing that somewhere. So it's something in the config that's preventing the Block Absorber from being used on Emendatus Enigmatica blocks.

Dammit :P Which metals did you try with?

Uranium block, Sulfur block, dimensional shard block, copper block, and fluorite block

It's fixed in 0.5.10 :D
