In order to place upgrades in pedestals, one must right-click with the upgrade in offhand, which is a profoundly unintuitive piece of UX which breaks from the internal logic of every other interaction Minecraft. Which would be fine, except that the sections which tell you how to do it in the 'Overview' chapter of the pedestals book are blank:

I only worked out what to do by researching and finding #2376, and I expect the OP of that was confused for the same reason.

A cursory search of the pedestals repo reveals no corresponding issue, so it may be local to E6.

This is an issue for Pedestals; I'm not sure if things have improved (I will check) but as of the release of 0.5.11 the book hadn't been updated.

The quests also could use some love but should be more up to date, and mention the off-hand behavior. I also have some other plans that may help.

@TemperedFool what is the status of this, if you remember? :)

Pedestals Git Patchouli Book
Its incomplete still, but even so, making this sucked the last remaining joy I had for developing in 1.16.

All the needed basic info can also be found here for 1.18, obviously some things have changed, but most the interactions and how they're used has remained the same.

I don't remember at all! I'll take a look at the questline and see if anything needs modification; sounds like Mowmaster has the manual covered at least.
