The however refers back to the previous sentence about heating the acid.
Heating it causes it to be consumed. However , it will still last a long time.
Ah that makes more sense, I was a bit too quick to edit then ^^' Would you like it changed back?
It's probably ok without it. There's an extra comma now though before the and.
