Describe the bug

Lighting rubber banding when using the fancy option in lambsDynamicLights. Causes the dynamic light to bounce back a block when walking. Especially noticable when Gamma is max

Expected behavior

Smooth block lighting transition

Observed/actual behavior

Lighting Bouncing back and forth as you walk

Steps To Reproduce

  1. Launch/Install modpack
  2. Open LambDynamicLights setting in mod menu
  3. Change dynamic lights from fastest to fancy
  4. Open a world ( I used superflats)
  5. Find or make a dark area
  6. Hold a torch or item that would emit light
  7. Observe rubberbanding

Modpack version

2.3.1

Launcher

MultiMC

Install method

Fresh install/new profile

How it should work using optifine

how it looks like in modpack

From the video it just seems to be the light update rate, which is indeed slower in Fast in order to be more performant. That option exists in Optifine as well.

If I changed the default, it may negatively affect less powerful computers...

I thought you already fixed it in the second video at 1:22? If not, please explain the issue more.

I dont want the default to change, but how would i change it so the light updates faster

commented

Sorry, It isnt fixed, the video compression is causing issues, I will re record and try again. However there is still rebounding in fancy mode.

I contacted the dev and she said it should work the same as Optifine.

I swear to god it's the same rate as OptiFine
FANCY makes it so any movement will trigger a chunk rebuild without delay
So it cannot be made faster
[...]
The only explanation I have is OF may be running it every frame and me every tick
But I don't remember
[...]
I think OF does it every tick too
And doing it every frame is a big no no

Things you could still try:

  • Getting Phosphor (extract phosphor-fabric-mc1.17.1-0.7.2+build.180.jar from the zip, via) or Starlight
  • Removing Iris and trying plain Sodium
  • Updating graphics drivers
