What it does

Hides the obstructive fire overlay when it's not needed

Why should it be in the modpack

It's a bedrock-parity, vanilla-friendly, lightweight mod

Why shouldn't it be in the modpack

Some people may not get the purpose of the mod and try to get rid of it and the entire modpack possibly. Also there was a report that the fire overlay disappeared completely.

Even resourcepacks can remove the fire overlay, I don't know why would anyone need a mod just for that.

This mod removes the fire overlay when you have fire resistance or are in creative mode. It only renders it when the fire actually inflicts damage.

This mod somehow completely removed the fire overlay, even not in creative mode/having fire resistance and now I can't get it back (with the mod removed also😕)

I've had no issues with it (other than it not working on 1.18.2)... and is that even possible? That second part feels like user error. I don't really understand how a simple mod like this would have a permanent effect like that.

I just recheck my modpack and yep, user issue
Sorry xD

Edit: It's upgraded, but only in GitHub
Edit 2: Uploaded on CurseForge now (1.18.2)

lolez:

as someone who has used the mod, i can confirm that it's great for fighting blazes or swimming in lava with fire res
because you don't have that annoying fire overlay
but without fire res everything is normal
and i'm guessing it would also be useful for creative

I get the creative and the Bedrock parity points, but I am a bit concerned about the expectations of PvP players.
Maybe one loses the effect in some other way and then they don't even know they were on fire. Or, if the fire literally burns the armor that they're wearing...

Well, I think they'll be aware of the existence of the mod and what it does. If not, a paragraph in https://fabulously-optimized.gitbook.io/modpack/readme/resource-pack-issues can be added..

Sure, I could add a disclaimer, but that's not the point.
The point is that the player would then attempt to get rid of the mod or abandon the modpack itself and that would only bring up the question of why the mod was added in the first place.

I think that since this is a MC Bedrock already the player would either know what this mod does or they can ask for help in the #support channel, in the Discord server

the biggest problem with this mod for me is that :
Why Am I on Fire works for both the client and server. For the best experience, use it on both sides.

On client: Hides the fire overlay when the player either has fire resistance or is in creative mode. If the player is still on fire and either the fire resistance effect is about to wear off or they're holding a bucket of milk, the fire overlay will flash as a warning.

it should have a toggle for the flashing

After long consideration, I've decided to reject this mod.

  • It's inaccurate. The player does not see themselves on fire, despite others seeing them so. While having fire on should not affect most environmental properties, it does for example play the extinguish sound which can seem like a bug. On Bedrock I presume neither the player itself nor others will see the fire, but in Java it just creates confusion.
  • It's surprising. Sudden lack of fire when it should be there and the fire flashing is surprising to the players, I don't really want the users to have to learn that.
  • Accessibility. Even if there is an option to adjust the flashing in some way, I don't know a better alternative so the UX would still be poor.
  • As it works server-side too, it seems like it could change the vanilla mechanics for LAN players.

I will probably reconsider this if Mojang decides to add this feature to Java (so I'd do snapshot parity), but for now, this is rejected.
