Before reporting, make sure your problem isn't caused by the game running out of RAM and you have read the installation guide carefully.
If the game crashes to your desktop without showing a crash screen it's a RAM issue. Don't submit this kind of issue. Please view the installation guide for how to solve this issue.
If this is not the case check the checkbox below by replacing the space between brackets with an 'x'.
- Yes, I'm sure this problem isn't because my game ran out of RAM.
I'm sure I followed the installation instructions completely. I have 16 gb of RAM. I can't say if its a ram issue or not, I don't know enough to tell.
Describe the bug
A clear and concise description of what the bug is.
The game completely freezes. I play in full screen so with it frozen I can't get out of the game to try and force quit or something. I don't know if I could move the mouse even if I wasn't in full screen. No quit commands work. This happens randomly, walking around, using JEI, really it could happen at anytime doing anything. The only way out is to hold the power button on my MacBook Pro laptop and shut the whole thing down, then turn back on.
To Reproduce
Unknown, play the game on my laptop for a certain amount of time, 20 minutes, or a number of hours. It's will happen at some point, not every time I play but most.
Expected behavior
I get to play the game until I press the save and quit button to stop playing.

Additional context
Add any other context about the problem here.
I am using a Mac, here are the specs.
3.1 Ghz Intel core i5
16 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3
Intel Iris Graphics 550 1536 MB
1 TB SSD (not sure exact specs)
The game runs fine otherwise with me turning down settings, I get solid fps unless stuff is crazy, like 40 to 70.
I think you'll probably have to turn down graphic settings, this is usually caused by your system, not the pack.
Ok I don’t even think I have it, should I try and download it or don’t even bother?
Don't close please.
My settings are very low as it is. Render distance 4, fast graphics, most of the useful optifine things enabled, particles decreased, everything that can be on fast is on fast.
Do you have specific settings I should change or other ideas?
Currently most everything is very low and I still have this problem, so it's likely not just turn down the settings.
Thanks, let me know what you think.
This pack is never tested on MacOS so idk if it has something to do with the system
I wouldn't know either. I've only ever played Minecraft on this machine and never had this problem with other packs. Are you able to see the cause in the logs I sent? I don't really know what I'm looking for but I figure you do.
Thanks again.
Okay I'll try and report back later.
Is OpenAL a Minecraft mod or software?
Thank you.
Hi.
OpenAL isn't available to download on Mac so I can't install.
I removed sound physics mod and had the same issue as described above. Random amount of time, random activity, game completely freezes, turn off computer because I can not do anything else.
Here are my newest debug and latest log. Let me know if there is something else I can provide you, sorry to trouble you so much and thank you for all the help.

Hello, do you have any ideas of how I can fix this, or maybe did you do something in the latest update? I really love the pack but its pretty much unplayable now. But it actually runs really well so I don’t want to give up. I played a day ago and this crash happened 4 times that day, it makes me quit playing because of how I have to stop everything, fully restart and do the long loading again. Nothing I try fixes it. Also It’s probably not the best for my computer to be fully freezing and shutting down so often.
It has to be something, I played a lot of modpacks in the past year and never had something like this happened to me.
Thank you, hopefully you can help me so I can keep playing and enjoy the pack.
try to turn off VBOs, shaders, vsync, etc
I seriously have no idea about why this is happening
I have no shaders. I will try your other stuff but all my setting are very low as it is.
do the logs I send not point to anything?
Thanks for trying to help, I agree its such a strange issue and because it happens for all sorts of reasons its hard to diagnose.
It's a sound related issue, your log is spammed with an error of sound physics
Have you tried removing sound physics mod yet?
Yup did it when you told me to. Have had the same crash 5 or more times since removing it, so its not that mod.
the most recent log I sent is after I removed it, so it shouldn’t even be mentioning sound physics mod. Are you looking at the old log perhaps?
This link I sent above is from after removing it.
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1YmsVd9aLstTl1A7o5RcN4R1hiezQSnQX?usp=sharing
Thats it again. (Sorry for google drive, it's all I found that works.)
Unfortunately this doesn't generate a proper crash report so I don't have one of those, wonder if there is a way to force it to make one.
See the link.
Really, thanks so much for taking time to try and help me, I really appreciate it, and hope I can fix it to play smoothly.
Alright I can test that as well.
Do you see something in the logs that point to my world be corrupt, or are you suggesting that as just a general thing to test?
I’d probably want to quit, or be extremely demotivated if I have to start a new world, so hopefully I don’t have to.
I’ll test it though so we can narrow down the problem at least.
Let me know if you have other suggestions that let me keep my world, and again thanks for the help. I’ll try that, and also the graphical setting you suggested a bit ago and report back.
I can't find any useful info in that log
Also if it turns out that your world is causing the problem, try restoring a backup
Ok. I don’t see a backup helping because whatever I restore to will be a point where I was also having the same problem.
Do you have any other JVM arguments I could try?
From research freezing is often a RAM problem. I was thinking that since this is the first time I've used these JVM arguments, and also the first time I've had this problem maybe the JVM argument is not good with my machine.
I can try the old one I used to use but maybe you have others, or know a good thing to swap around.
Thanks again, maybe this is on the right track.
You can find some on the internet and some use G1GC instead of CMS GC. You can go to mod settings and change how often memory Cleaner cleans memory.
I tried the few graphics suggestions you suggested and had the crash.
I also tried lowering the allocated RAM and had the crash and worse performance. (thinking was that MC was taking more RAM then the system could handle)
I can’t really spend enough time in a new world to know If I will get the crash. I’m not interested in starting over, nor in transferring my items to a new world. (I spent a while building and can’t really transfer that)
At least 1 user in the discord has the same problem so it turns out to not just be me.
Not sure what to do but give up at this point, super unfortunate. But we can’t even figure what the problem is, so how could we hope to fix it.
Thanks again, and let me know if you have any more ideas.
I am using the following args for 10gig allocated:
"-XX:MaxNewSize=2500m -XX:+DisableExplicitGC"
Works pretty well for my needs as the only reason I had for even looking for args was to stop memcleaner from freezing when it kicks in, the args above fix that.
If you have 9 gig allocated just change the 2500 to 2000, 1800 for 8g, 1200 for 7g.
Such short arg so worth trying, not much to erase for new attempt if they dont work.
Sorry which part specifically are you suggesting I change?
These are your current:
-Xss4M -Dfile.encoding=GBK -XX:+AggressiveOpts -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:+UseParNewGC -XX:+CMSConcurrentMTEnabled -XX:ParallelGCThreads=8 -Dsun.rmi.dgc.server.gcInterval=1800000 -XX:+UnlockExperimentalVMOptions -XX:+ExplicitGCInvokesConcurrent -XX:MaxGCPauseMillis=50 -XX:+AlwaysPreTouch -XX:+UseStringDeduplication -Dfml.ignorePatchDiscrepancies=true -Dfml.ignoreInvalidMinecraftCertificates=true -XX:-OmitStackTraceInFastThrow -XX:+OptimizeStringConcat -XX:+UseAdaptiveGCBoundary -XX:NewRatio=3 -Dfml.readTimeout=90 -XX:+UseFastAccessorMethods -XX:CMSInitiatingOccupancyFraction=75 -XX:+CMSScavengeBeforeRemark -XX:+UseCMSInitiatingOccupancyOnly
Also good Idea about clean up time, do you think I should make it clean more often?
also also do you happen to have a list of cosmetic type mods, client or not (I’m single player) Maybe I could delete all the unnecessary stuff like the better foliage and the animation and 3rd person mods.
Thanks again!
Try -Xss4M -Dfile.encoding=GBK -XX:+UseG1GC -XX:+ParallelRefProcEnabled -XX:MaxGCPauseMillis=200 -XX:+UnlockExperimentalVMOptions -XX:+DisableExplicitGC -XX:+AlwaysPreTouch -XX:G1NewSizePercent=30 -XX:G1MaxNewSizePercent=40 -XX:G1HeapRegionSize=8M -XX:G1ReservePercent=20 -XX:G1HeapWastePercent=5 -XX:G1MixedGCCountTarget=4 -XX:InitiatingHeapOccupancyPercent=15 -XX:G1MixedGCLiveThresholdPercent=90 -XX:G1RSetUpdatingPauseTimePercent=5 -XX:SurvivorRatio=32 -XX:+PerfDisableSharedMem -XX:MaxTenuringThreshold=1
Well I tired using your new ones TC and had the same crash.
I also tried the the ones from the comment above and had the crash.
I also tried the JVM I was using on previous packs and had the crash
I also tried some popular ones from the internet and had the crash.
I think we may be on the right track with the JVM arguments as the fix. When using the ones from the above comment, or the internet, or the old one, I had the crash almost immediately. If using bad JVM arguments can cause the same crash repeatedly, to me that means using good ones might be able to fix the issue.
By far your original and new one gave me the best performance and longest time before the crash. So I think we just have to tweak it for my system.
These are my specs again:
Mac
3.1 Ghz Intel core i5
16 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3
Intel Iris Graphics 550 1536 MB
1 TB SSD
I would try and tweak it myself, but unfortunately I'm extremely ignorant with knowing what things mean, or what would be useful to change.
Thanks, only help as much as you like.
Can you find hs_err_pidxxxx.log files that get generated right after the crashes in your instance folder?
I can't find that unfortunately. Is it possible to not have that? Or if not what folder or file path is it exactly? I looked pretty hard, and searched.
Thank you.
Ok. Using the bad JVM's caused the problem to happen very quickly and repeatably like a few minutes in the world and It would freeze. Thats why I was thinking it would be JVM related.
It’s also likely the hs_err_pidxxxx.log file you wanted didn’t generate because instead of crashing my game completely freezes and I have to shut the whole computer down.
Crash reports don’t generate either.
Thanks.
Try to alt+f4 or use task manager or something (idk if MacOS has one) to force close the game instead of shutting down and see if there's a crash log
