2.7.0

Your Proposal

Add a break punishment which prevent the controller of HIP and Black Hole Compressor to be broken while not fully cooled or closed.

Example: when a not fully cooled HIP controller or a Black Hole Compressor with a black hole not closed is broke, it will EXPLODE and destroy all the structure block of itself.

Your Goal

Some players use ME Annihilation Plane and ME Formation Plane to break and re-place the machine controller to refresh its state. This strategy enable players to skip any coil upgrade for HIP because they can skip any cooling phase by breaking and re-placing. This also happens for black hole collapser since if the controller is broken the black hole will be voided.

Your Vision

Force the player to cool the machine and close the black hole.

Breaking and replacing controller makes usage of creativity, is harder to do than the classic way of automating the multi (machine control cover next to the heat sensor, or use the hysterisis for max eff) and is a fun way to bypass a limit in game. (see wrench nukes). Making the machine go boom just because someone does not play like the rest of us is meh. So at the very least if we want to patch this, it'll just be some NBT saving, but i don't think it's worth fixing tbh, i don't want to have unstackable controllers when i dismantle them because i didn't bothered to wait for full cooldown before moving my multis.

I think EXPLOSION is a very bad idea too but in my opinion this strategy still ought to be fixed. The HIP cools fast so this strategy is barely useful. However, the Black Hole Collapser uses UHV sensor and Proto-Halkonite Steel and is a little expensive (at least before the Godforge) so this strategy enables player to save a considerable amount of Proto-Halkonite Steel, UHV circuit and Spacetime (they can instantly break the controller once the recipe is done).

About latency, some automation I have made by Opencomputers or ProjectRed also have obvious latency and from my own perspective the break-and-place strategy have no more latency than that. The automation of break-and-place is actually very simple, almost the same as heat sensor and redstone. Thus players bypass too many automation challenge in Black Hole Compressor.

In a word, from my own view although this strategy shows what creativity players have, it rewards players more than it should. But I won't insist on my idea if others still oppose it. After all it is just a suggestion:)

The better solution is probably to just store black hole status and cooling in item nbt so that this strategy has no benefit.

I definitely think black hole should save its status to item nbt at the very least, I just haven’t gotten around to it.

I told this to some players. Some said they can use Name Remover to remove heat and stability data, others said this is helpful to save spacetime because if the Black Hole Compressor is idling they can simply break it down and keep it until it is used later.

no I dont think name remover can do that, just like CAL circuit imprint

This just feels unnecessary and is patching the players creativity because they didn't abide by the developers intension.

The same thing came up with beam line not long ago because players found out the masks could be repaired.
