Obviously such a major sequence break must not be allowed to stand.

However, actually having something in the script makes it harder to remove if someone does not want it in the pack.

If it's in a separate file, there wouldn't be issues with removing it from the pack. Besides, the main reason people would have to remove the mod is gone with #498 merged.

I'm not particularly concerned about this, unless the cauldrons can be used in place of the metal one in crafting recipes (washing dusts isn't really a concern).

On top of that, Lost Cities gets you tons of free cauldrons. MoreCauldrons is pretty much there for decorative purposes.
