Related to #523:

Diamond gear is used in Tesla Core Lib Speed Upgrade recipes, potentially intentionally (?). Regular SevTech had this changed in 2018 so I assume this is unintentional.

Did this behavior use to work in the previous version?

Yes, this was changed in the non-SkyBlock version.
