netty server io errors

Bug Description

I am on current version 5.0.8. I get a large number of attempts to join my server. I have it whitelisted for me and two friends and I didn't not give away my public ip address. This was also happening with version 5.0.7. I think there might be an addon with some kind of malicious code to broadcast my ip to allow connections in based on some search results. The connection attempts all seem to come from a vanilla client based on the errors. I tested a different custom modded server for a week and did not get connection attempts. My log will show better details I think.

Did this behavior used to work in the previous version?

Hi Mega, I am not related to Darkosto that created this pack however I do run a self hosted server for my family and friends so I might be able to provide some possible insights on your issue.

When I looked at the log you provided the main information that jumped out at me was the following -
Disconnecting VANILLA connection attempt: This server has mods that require Forge to be installed on the client. Contact your server admin for more details.

AND

[Worker-Main-4/ERROR] [se.gory_moon.player_mobs.utils.NameManager/]: Error fetching names from https://whitelist.gorymoon.se/api/RBaEKlLZbgrX39xp0vmdr/minecraft_twitch_nl

The first line to me this looks like forge or the required version of forge is not installed on your server box. Forge must be installed per Minecraft installation. If you have another instance of a server running, even if it uses the same version, it does not mean that another instance has this installed as well.

Can you confirm that when you installed this pack on your server you used the server pack provided by Darkosto and team (I got mine from the Curseforge launcher) and then ran the install batch file to set it up. Or did you just copy the files from your local machine to the server.

The second line to me looks like the mod 'Player Mobs' by GoryMoon is trying to connect to his website to retrieve a list of names to use and is unable to connect to it or is not getting the required response from it.

For this you will either need to confirm that site is live or not blocked for you and then work from that point on. Being that I can load the server pack without issue I do not believe it is a site issue.

Hopefully it is as simple as the first line and Forge just needs to be installed. Best of luck with your server.

Oh I just click the link in my comment for the 'player mobs' and it loads so the site is the not the issue for that part of the log.

I downloaded the pack via cursforge and ran the install.bat for setup. I did this for 5.07 and 5.08, but just moved the world forlder over after install.bat was complete. It should not be a forge issue as myself and my friends can connect and join the server without issue.

I'm not concerned about the Player Mobs issue. That so far only happened once when I went through the logs. While I do keep my network rather locked down from intrusions, I don't have his website blocked.

Ok obviously I have misunderstood the issue you are having and my apology for the lack of usual help there.

I hope you work out whatever it is. All I can say is my self-hosted server (on a separate Windows computer) was running for a few months while I played the pack and it never missed a beat and the only time I had an issue was when the Minecraft auth servers were down which is not a pack issue.
