Hand-Craft Vines to Green Dye

I've seen a lot of people saying that they ate their green apples or put their green apples in a barrel to make dirt before realizing that they could use them to make green dye, and at least one person has accidentally tossed their green apple into the void. They then spend an excessive amount of time trying to get more green apples to drop from their colorless tree before turning to Google to figure out what they're doing wrong, only to find out that the apples will never drop again for them and they need to advance to the point of having machinery set up before they can access green again. Overall, giving people progression in a way that they have an opportunity to miss simply seems like more trouble than it's worth.
Making vines craftable directly into green dye would make the progression feel more natural than the one-time freebie apple drop. As brown will likely be the first color unlocked without the free green apple drop and brown trees already come paired with vines, this would make green dye easily obtainable and renewable from basically the same point in the pack that it's currently unlocked, rather than requiring lengthy detour if the opportunity is missed the first time it appears.
I initially thought that I had unlocked green just for breaking enough leaf blocks and that the green apple was just an achievement or quest reward for it, and at least one other person in Discord thought the same thing at first. Getting rid of the free apple drop and instead allowing people unlock green by breaking a naturally green object and picking up the green item that drops from it will leave people less confused about how or why they've suddenly and unexpectedly unlocked a new color. Having to go out of your way to make shears to collect vines would also make color unlock more rewarding than the literal handout that the pack currently gives us.
