What it does

Forces Minecraft to use modern OpenGL versions instead of the old version

Why should it be in the modpack

While boosting the performance, the play experience won't be changed at all. Doesn't conflict with any of other mods in the modpack.

Why shouldn't it be in the modpack

There isn't really a reason to not put this mod in the modpack, but I don't know what will happen if old GPUs (I mean really old ones like from 12 years ago) can use it.

Additional details

I was reading about the mod and what it does, looks like it won't do anything on old GPUs but doesn't exactly clarify that what will happen on older machines.

And the performance boost isn't really too much, but it is something.

may reduce fps on some computers, don't think it's worth it

I don't think there are many players using GPUs below NVIDIA Kepler or AMD GCN.

And also, the developer has confirmed that there is no problem for the older GPUs as the mod disables itself on older ones.

The usefulness of this and similar mods is disputed, to put it mildly. It also seems like this is not available on CurseForge right now?

The modpack's current policy is to recommend system-level options when available.

From what I've heard about this mod, it seems to be fake and doesn't really work.

Also please note that Sodium already requires OpenGL 4.5+ which effectively makes this mod irrelevant.

Sodium officially supports but does not require 4.5+ at the moment. See the paragraph below on your link:

Nearly all graphics cards that are already compatible with Minecraft (which requires OpenGL 3.3) should also work with Sodium.

So just the 5 cents from my side about this mod as I tested it a few weeks ago:
There was 0 FPS difference when using this mod.

Setup:

  • Minecraft 1.21.5
  • Normal world with render distance 16
  • GPU: AMD RX 9000 Series
  • Mods:
    • Sodium
    • EntityCulling
    • MoreCulling
    • ImmediatelyFast
    • a few other mods that don't affect rendering

Also please note that Sodium already requires OpenGL 4.5+ which effectively makes this mod irrelevant.
