A side-effect of the smaller biome sizes is also that mountains became more steep and harder to climb compared to vanilla since there is less space for the mountain to reach its height

Since a lot of flat terrain still exists, a consideration is to try and make mountains extend further for an overall smoother terrain, without increasing the underlying noise (which would result in more distance between mountain biomes / mountainess terrain).
