[Chests Anywhere] show less scary error when update check fails

When an update check fails (e.g. because the connection is offline), a scary red block of text is shown:

Show a much more user-friendly error message. Related to #17.

Fixed in the upcoming 1.7 release via 88c9a47 and 4a71673d801b54c4fa35eaabdf6f833012f40837:
