Bumping this, I think this is a really really core feature the addon should have. I jump around alts a lot and having to set this up on every new character is pretty irritating. Especially with disabling the version print message, it's ironic that an addon for removing annoying popups has its own annoying popup I have to keep removing.

I think using a checkbox is fine, and when I implement this sort of thing I generally just keep the variables separate. If you don't have account-wide variables yet and you turn it on for the first time it should migrate your current character's settings over to set the initial state, but from then on out keeping them separate is fine.

One important note though, the setting for using account-wide variables itself should be account-wide so we don't need to set it per character.
