I don't know if it is possible to implement this feature but I think that adding a filter by specialization to the search options would improve a lot the items' purchases. This because a lot of items aren't related to specializations, so they don't really improve the primary stat for a specialization. For example I was searching a staff for my Demonology Warlock and I found that a lot of staves improve agility (colored grey in tooltip) and not intellect which is the primary stat for Demonology Warlocks.
