[Feature Request] More granular priority options

What version(s) of WoW are you using?

Retail

What problem are you experiencing that led to you asking for this feature?

The priority system for categories is likely fine for most users. However, 5 priority levels can lead to confusion when dealing with lots of categories and items that may fall into more than one simple category. More priority levels would allow to more explicitly prioritize certain categories over all others, without having to further complicate the search query for each category.

What solution would you like?

Additional priority levels, preferably directly assigning a number value from say -1 to 100 instead of using a slider (or just an alternative to the slider). This could be an advanced setting, leaving the existing sliders by default, but switching to a number value if enabled.

Any alternatives you can think of?

Do you have an example of a few categories that clash?

Gear for a quick example, just based off stuff currently in my bags.

  • Soulbound
  • Cosmetic (some is soulbound, some is BoE, and some is WuE)
  • Soulbound, but can't equip or not appropriate (cloth for plate wearers, e.g.).
  • Soulbound and low ilvl (old dungeon trash, e.g.)
  • Soulbound, but tabard or shirt (typically low ilvl)
  • Legendaries and Artifacts from previous expansions, but they're soulbound and low level
  • Items in gear sets. (side question: items that are in multiple gear sets, how is this resolved? which set wins?)

I don't mean to imply that these aren't solvable with more complex search queries on the categories. They certainly are. But at a certain point the queries aren't terribly readable at a glance (and you often can't see the entire query in-game due to the visible size of the text field).

My point is they would be simpler to solve in a lot of cases with just more priority options. As it is, I don't know how the addon currently chooses a winner between categories with the same priority set, and it would be more obvious to the user which is winning if the user could be more explicit in choosing a winner with a wider range of priorities.

There's enough priority levels to resolve those options:
Low: gear and soulbound
High: cosmetic
Normal: gear and (not usable or cloth)
High: soulbound and (tabard or shirt)
High: gear and (legendary or artifact)
Highest: soulbound & <150

Gear sets follow different rules as the items are directly bound to the categories (as if you'd dragged them in)

All the "High" categories don't overlap, so there's no need for differentiating priorities

I did start with a more granular priority system (entering a number directly), but found it wasn't needed.

Quibbles with your priority example:

  • the highs and highest should be swapped, otherwise <ilvl is catching all the shirts/tabards and legend/artifact from previous expansions
  • don't cosmetic shirts and tabards exist, placing those 2 in conflict as written?

You're right in that it typically can be solved (cosmetic can be written to exclude tabards and shirts also). But (in my mind at least), more priority options means you don't have to care or think about what category queries conflict with each other as much, just because there's more priority options to spread them across and there's less likelihood of conflicting categories having the same priority.

Understandable if it's not an option you'd prefer to implement. And maybe a number range is too much. But even just a few additional options (i.e. lower and lowest) would provide a little more breathing room.
