Host the addon outside of CurseForge

As CurseForge is locking out everyone except Overwolf's own addon manager (source: https://www.wowhead.com/news/ads-revenue-and-api-wowup-and-overwolf-split-over-addon-development-325912), please host this addon elsewhere than CurseForge (at least co-host it elsewhere). Options include:

  • Hosting a .zip file of the addon here in the GitHub repository (this allows WowUp to pull it down)
  • Hosting it on WowUpHub website
  • Hosting it on wago.io (allows monetization to continue, if that is a concern)
  • Hosting it on TukUI
  • Hosting it on WowInterface

I am personally using WowUp to update addons, and while I very much respect that some addon creators want their work monetized, and believe that they should have the option, I do not support the Overwolf lock-out simply because they want everyone to use their app. If monetization is a priority, I suggest using wago.io as addon hosting, as it allows for monetization of addons, also while using WowUp; which shows they're willing to find solutions, rather than the Overwolf approach of refusing to cooperate.
I don't mind anyone hosting their addons on CurseForge, but please, please, please host it outside of CurseForge as well, for those of us who would like to cut ties with CurseForge, but still use your amazing addon โค๏ธ

Please use wago.io as hosting. You get paid, and we get to use this beloved addon, without having to manually download from curseforge to stay away from Overwolf <3

I would add that you can just tag a release & put a zip file in the repo with filename_whatever-bc.zip and wowup will find it.

Just to add to the wago.io hosting, most other bagnon add-ons as already moved to wago.io or multi-hosted with a few exceptions listed velow

  • bagnon scrap
  • bagnon facade
  • bagnon currencies [I'm kind-of sure this is already implemented on default bagnon]
  • bagnon requieredlevel
  • bagnon sylevel [which i think is unusable]
  • bagnon champion

so move to wago.io sound like the most sensible and centralized option, maybe even integrate the few but that another issue.

A little up here, look like the Curseforge API has been closed or at least partially closed just right now, so now Bagnon is no-source in most download managers.

So if there is a time to do something, i think now is it.

Yes Wago is a great solution as a 2nd source. They get paid for their work and we can decide whether we want to use Curse or Wowup.

Wago requires a pateron sub, so from a user pov its not really great. Also wowuphub is not supported in cursebreaker.

Wago does not require a patreon sub, no. As for WowUpHub, that seems to require setting up Github in a specific way, which I believe is supported by Cursebreaker, but I may be wrong.

That is if you, personally, want to access their API and build something with it. I'm personally using WowUp, and haven't had to pay a cent for utilizing their wago.io provider.
But instead of completely derailing this issue, with a discussion about wago.io and their patreon, I'd recommend that you pop over to the WowUp Discord server, where people with a lot more knowledge than me, can help you get all the facts straightened out โค๏ธ

cursebreaker> install https://addons.wago.io/addons/auctionator
RuntimeError: Failed to parse addon data: https://addons.wago.io/addons/auctionator
The Wago Addons API key is missing. It can be obtained here: https://addons.wago.io/patreon

Oh I see, wowup partnered up with wago when doing a little search. Currently not playing wow so not in the know.

Its not derailing if we are talking about options where to upload the addon.

Thanks for info.
