GoW is always being used instead of Mark of the Wild for single target buffs. When solo it'd be cool if it used MoW to avoid using a reagent. Not a deal breaker but using a reagent for a self-buff isn't optimal.

This is not the default behavior. I tested it on my druid and Mark of the Wild is being used (as it should) when I'm not in a party.

Ensure that you use the latest version of Buffomat. If the problem persists, please check your settings, specifically:
Convenience > Replace single buffs should be unchecked.
Buffing Timers > Missing buffs to use a group buff should be set to at least 2.

Also visit your druid trainer, as I can imagine the problem you describe could happen if you did not learn the highest rank of Mark of the Wild.
