The clickable area is actually determined by the backdrop size. So, you can enable the backdrop and adjust its size to expand the range.
(You can hide the backdrop again after you finish adjusting the size.)

The item level information comes from ElvUI, and it is almost impossible to inject code into ElvUI's inspection system. (The item level feature works by scanning all the equipment of that character.)
