Spec like marksmanship hunter could be happy to see an option enabled to detect the number of nameplates around their target(a range check is better), to determine if multishot should be used. Pet-based nameplate check works very well for bm hunters, is a target-based check possible?

No, unfortunately. That would definitely be a nice feature but is not possible.
