[[Item] link auto-complete overwrites previously typed text

The chat [[Item] auto-complete feature almost always gets it wrong, making for a frustrating time trying to link an item by name.
For example, try typing [[Essence Of Air]. On typing the O, it will change to an M ("[[Essence Mango ", but the M will persist, even if more of the item is typed. Typing the full [[Essence Of Air results in [[Essence Mf Air
Other examples:
Crusader Orb -> Crusader Brb (Crusader Bow)
Abyss Crystal -> AbyssaCrystal (Abyssal Bag)
Greater Celestial Essence -> Greater Malestial Essence (Greater Magic Essence)
Even backspacing over the "incorrect" letters and retyping will result in the same mistake. The only way to work around this is to type the entire name (with the incorrect letters), and then use the left arrow, backspace, and replace the wrong letters, then go back to the end of line to type the final ].
The auto-complete should never force its guesses; further input from the user should overwrite any guessed letters.
Or at least, we need an option to turn auto-complete off.
