Any way to have MailNotifier show the mail icon (broker, or minimap) only when there's new mail?

I'd like to have MailNotifier display either an icon in the broker bar, or on the minimap, only when there's new mail. If there is no new mail, the minimap icon/broker entry is not displayed.
