classic spell ranks

I'm unable to drag different ranks of the same spell to the action bar and keep them separate ranks. It looks like it's picking the higher rank spell for both of them. Not sure what I need to do or if I should just edit the macro and add the spell rank? Thanks
I ran into this as well. What has worked for me so far is to edit the button and add the "rank x" into the area between the parenthesis.
/cast fireball(rank 1)
or
/cast fireball(rank 2)
etc

Thank you. Manually editing the buttons works fine for now.

Hrm, I can fix this in a few days when I'm back. This is because of an incompatibility in how spells in classic and retail are named and some checks I had put into retail a while ago

IMO this is a feature. The default macro casts the highest rank, which is very convenient because you don't have to remember to add the higher rank to your bars every time you get a new one. Please make it optional if you make the default dragged-on macro add the rank.
