I think the polygons ( #2328 ) will work really well in conjunction with the simplified area markers.

(And of course, you'll have the ability to turn off Suggested Route, and Simplified Area Markers in settings.)

(Tooltip Missing, but it'll have a bit of text in the bottom, "Hold Shift to See Specific Markers" -- tool tips TBD... can talk through that later.)
