Description

I was farming Pristine Yeti Hide for hours. I must have cleared that cave at least 30 times. After completing The Mark of Quality and going back to the cave in the north it dropped before, I got all the other hides.

I don't know if this was a coincidence, but if it was not the Pristine Yeti Hide drop should not be shown on mobs before The Mark of Quality is completed.

It can drop before "The Mark of Quality" is done. Unless they changed this since Classic when I added this.

I can't remember if I tested Horde or Alliance side... but then it hit me there are 2 quests. Totally possible for it to be different on one of the factions.

The quest text seems to imply that it is kind of a part of this chain.

Considering that Pratt McGrubben at the Feathermoon Stronghold is in the market for yeti hides, this particular one may be of considerable interest to him.

There's a comment from back in 2006 that mentioned getting this to drop while doing The Mark of Quality. They don't mention which side, but I think in this situation, this may have been very very unlucky RNG.

In any case, this is going to need some serious testing (and proof) before changing the behavior.

I had this exact same "bad luck" the other day, and eventually gave up. I have an addon that shows numbers of kills I did on a mob within tooltip text, so if I go back there at some point I could screenshot the kill counts of each I did without getting the drop for proof, then go do The Mark of Quality and come back to see if it drops in a reasonable amount of time afterwards.
