Questie sometimes does not recognize the looted quest item

Description

Screenshot_31
As seen in the screenshot, I looted a quest item from a quest mob, but the questie did not recognize the item in my bag, and still showing I need to collect the said item while it's sitting in the bag.

I think this could be caused by another addon that lets me loot faster than usual, i don't know. This issue does not always happen, it happened twice in 4-5 hours of playtime and in both instances I was in a group with another person, if that helps to narrow it down.

Questie version

v10.9.2 / client 1.15.5 Era

Game flavor

Era/HC

like the "Dry Times" quest where you buy drinks from vendors that are in peaceful cities

I'll try that quest as well and see if I can reproduce it. Most likely I won't though, as it seems to be a somewhat rare case.

For example I would buy a quest drink from a NPC but the questie Tracker does not update, or updates after a minute or two.

Yeah the Tracker simply updates the next time and quest related event is fired by the WoW client and Questie is in a state to update (e.g. progressing any other quest, accepting/turning-in a quest, closing the bank, ...).

am using the following mods for Wow Anniversary : Auctionator, buggrabber, bugsack, DejaCStats, gatheringtooltip, leatrix maps, leatrix plus, questie 10.9.5

Nothing special, so don't worry about these @Bogdanov89

I've never encountered this one, sadly

Hey @evascale1

This happened quite regularly in the past and we were quite sure to fix this for good a while back. Guess we didn't ๐Ÿ™ˆ

As this happens only sporadically it's really hard for us to pin these kind of issues down. If we can't reproduce it really easy, it requires a lot of time to find the underlying issue.

It started happening to me this morning after an update with classic HC, don't know if related.
And have a lot of people I played with confirming it as well, we have to /reload for the quest log to update correct.

commented

Have been encountering this one since Tuesday, with the new patch. Sometimes it's quest items, and sometimes it's credit for kills. Reloading the UI is the only way to get it to update - untracking and retracking the quest does nothing. I haven't been grouping while leveling, so it isn't related to groups. I've tried the version since before Tuesday, and both versions that came out yesterday, and it still is happening.

It also means the map icons don't update correctly when a quest is complete, since the tracker thinks it's incomplete too.

I just leveled a character on SoD for 3 levels and didn't encounter an issue.

Then I switched to an Era realm. First quest item I loot: Questie doesn't update.

I'll keep you posted, thanks for bringing this up everyone!

This is easily reproduced for me. I've levelled through Northshire practice runs like 8 times so far. This happened about 32 out of 40 times regarding the main quests, Brotherhood of Thieves, Bounty on Garrick Padfoot, Collecting Kelp, Gold Dust Exchange and Kobold Candles.

At least 4 out of 5 of these quests would report not finished when I loot the last item needed each run.

Hey @evascale1 @Rewston @Talazain @Leorium12

It would be great if you could test this version and see if the issue still appears:

Questie-v10.9.4-06bb95236.zip

Note that this version only runs on Era and HC

I completed one quest and haven't had any issues so far, but originally I didn't have this issue all the time either, so I can't say for certain if it's fixed, at least for now. Still, thanks for responding and working out a solution so quickly!

I will try it out for a day after fresh servers open and if I don't encounter it again will close the thread.

Short explanation about the issue and what changed:

It looks like the caching of the WoW client either got a bit slower or simply reset. That means that some API events, Questie listens and reacts to where not fired in the expected manner.

Before: event -> update
Now: event -> no update -> event -> update.

To counter this, we added a "retry mechanism" which will not ignore the second event, when the first one didn't lead to an update.

So this just happened to me again on the old HC server Stitches EU with the quest [[45] Fiery Blaze Enchantments (706)].
Using version 10.9.5.
Had to /reload for the questlog to update correctly.

Hmmm... Interesting ๐Ÿค”

I'll re-open this and we keep investigating. As said above: Sporadic issues are really hard to track down for us.

I am having this issue commonly on the anniversary realms (pve eu).

I would loot a quest item from an npc or buy from a vendor (alliance quest Dry Times) and Questie Tracker would not update at all - or would take well over a minute or two to update.

I usually just do /reload to fix it but its happening at least once an hour.
I dont know is this relevant but i am also using Leatrix Plus with the option for faster auto loot.

commented

Hey @Bogdanov89 could you verify this also happens when you leave combat after quest progression? Due to certain limitations the Tracker only updates after leaving combat.

commented

@BreakBB yea it happens even when not related to combat (like the "Dry Times" quest where you buy drinks from vendors that are in peaceful cities).
For example I would buy a quest drink from a NPC but the questie Tracker does not update, or updates after a minute or two.

Happens to me as well on the anniversary realms. Happens outside of battle and only with special quest items, I haven't had it happen with mob kills or mob drops (yet?)

commented

What's the difference between special quest items and mob drops?

What's the difference between special quest items and mob drops?

The crates in the sunken ships in Darkshore for example. This is one place where the bug happened for me.

commented

Unfortunately, seems to still be occuring with version 10.10.2 on the anniversary realms.

I realize its probably not useful, but the quest was Sweet Amber (quest ID: 51), the item was A Sycamore Branch (item id: 742)

I am using leatrix's quick loot setting and bagnon in case those are potentially also interfering with things.

Thanks for letting us know @tjmitchell1 we'll keep searching then.
