There is no "tracking button" in classic wow.

Am I thinking of the wrong button? When you use "Find Minerals" a giant button appears to the top left of the minimap.

No offense but your report was useless in terms of figuring out the problem, it didn't even contain a description. Another user has opened an issue with proper information at #69
