I'd like to change an icon's size instead of scale to keep consistent spacing between icons and to reduce any blurry textures/borders around icons.

Is this possible to do within a snippet?

Technically yes, but it won't be pretty. The easiest thing you could do here is use the Bar display method instead of Icon (configure this setting on the group). This display method has explicit settings for icon width and height (look for the "Bar" panel on the left-hand side of the group settings), so just configure the width and height to be the same (so the progress bar part will be hidden).
