Hello!

I started getting this error, I think after I signed up for the Mentor Guide system. Maybe because it puts you in a new chat? The new chat is called NewcomerChat.

This is an interesting bug. I didn't know there was a new chat. I'll have to look into this.

Hello! Can you try the above version of xanChat and see if you get the error? You may need to login and logout a few times to fully test it.

Also if possible can you test the Channel Short Names feature of xanChat? I added the Newcomer Chat to that feature and it should shorten it to NC.

Hello.

I have the newcomer chat disabling itself after relog. Every time I have to go to settings and check the /4 or /5 channel again. I tried unlocking chat settigns and then checking /4, still resets after relog. No errors caught.

My bad, I tried the file from the zip above and it seems to be working now. Even game restart didn't break it.

But I use #c0fff0 for newcomer chat for it to look different from other channels like /1 or /2 and it keeps resetting after reload ui even with unlocked settings, and with locked settings too.

Thanks for responding. The original author of the ticket hasn't responded to me in 2 days or more. I was hoping they can test the update I posted above before I release it.

The newcomer chat seems to be tied to a particular channel number that changes upon login. In fact they don't have much ChatInfo on it in the code. The reason the color keeps changing is because they force it to reset on login. I'll have to see if I can override it but it may be restricted. Because as of right now asking for the color of that particular channel returns an nil or error. Regardless, I tried my best to make sure that xanChat doesn't interfere with that particular chat channel.

Have you tested the shortnames feature of xanChat with the newcomer chat by any chance? It should have shortened it to NC.

That's actually weird, because I changed it to different colour before and it didn't reset. Now it keeps resetting, but not to blizzard's default colour. It resets to #82c5ff, default was #ffc0c0, and the colour I use is #c0fff0.

Thanks for the response.

Make sure that xanChat doesn't have it's settings locked when you move channels around and change colors. Having the settings locked prevents xanChat from saving anything, even with a reload. It's a feature that's supposed to be used when you have everything exactly how you want it.

While you double check that, i'll look back into this mentor channel thing. It's almost as if it's treating it as an independent special channel.

Double checked just now to be sure, with Xanchat's 'lock' setting unchecked. It's still resetting the colors for all the channels upon reload.

I think I know what's going on now. It looks like they changed how the channel colors are stored and set.

Please download the above debug xanChat. It will print out debug stuff to your chat frame. I need to see what's going on since I don't have access to the mentor channel.

Please show me using screenshots if you like, the debug print out that shows in your ChatFrame when you go to edit your NewComerChat color under the ChatConfig settings. I need to see how they are referring to this new channel and by what number.

The location of the Config frame I'm referring to, should similar like the one above. I need a picture of the debug stuff in your chatframe when you go to this location.

Also, please provide me your xanChat.lua from your SAVEDVARIABLES folder found under WTF folder of your WOW installation.

Okay so this confirms what I thought. They have NewcomerChat listed for you as channel 4. So they are using a regular channel number but have the identifier tag of NewcomerChat instead of Newcomer Chat. It also looks like they aren't using any unique identifiers for it other than CHANNEL4. Otherwise it would be something like NEWCOMER_CHAT.

I'll make some quick fixes and do a last debug script for you to test before I publish.

@Natlyz yes, I haven't finished doing the debug update yet. I was about to post it here for you guys to try out. I haven't pushed any updates to the Addon websites yet.

Please download the above debug xanChat. There was a bug on how the game returns channel colors now. I've updated the code to reflect the new changes and use the method that Blizzard utilizes now. Because of this I've had to completely redo the database stored information for ONLY channel colors. The rest is still the same.

I need you guys to test the above and see if it stores the and restores your chat colors. Both on xanChat unlocked and locked. You may need to login and out a few times or /reloadUI /reload a few times to fully test it.

If everything checks out, please attach here your xanChat from your SavedVariables to confirm everything is being properly stored.

Downloaded the archive.

Settings locked: changing colour > reload ui > colour didn't reset. Relogged the game > colour didn't reset.
Same with settings unlocked.

Okay good so that means everything is working as it should then? If possible could you provide me with your xanChat.lua found under your SAVEDVARIABLES folder under WTF from your WOW installation? I want to verify a few things are being stored properly.

Okay your debug info pretty much confirms it @wheatbread . Thanks for posting your debug information and your xanChat SavedVariables. This has helped me tremendously since I don't have access to the Newcomer Chat. Let me write up an update for you guys to test and that should take care of the issue.
