Structural parts for creating rovers

How to Build:

Easiest way: copy the rover.craft file from the RovoDyne/Subassemblies folder to the Subassemblies folder in your Saves folder.

Building can be tricky: the rover chassis has so many nodes that the order the parts are added in is important. Here's what I've found works the best:

  1. Start with a RC-L01 Remote Guidance Unit

  2. Add a Rockomax Brand Decoupler above
  3. Add the rover chassis
  4. Add some wheels. I recommend Tweakable Wheels which will help prevent your rover from tipping when breaking or accellerating
  5. Add the PPD-10 Hitchhiker Storage Container. You can also add lights, batteries, solar panels and anything else you want
  6. Add the PPD-12 Cupola Module
  7. Add the rover skycrane
  8. Add some retrorockets. Add as many which ever type you need for your destination. Four Rockomax 24-77s work well for most planets

  1. Add an Inline Advanced Stabilizer to the skycrane (you'll need this to steer, since thrust vectoring doesn't work when the engines are so close to the craft's center of mass)
  2. Add an RC-001S Remote Guidance Unit (you'll need to control your rocket from here, since the cupola module is pointing sideways)
  3. If you're going to land in an atmosphere, add a parachute. I recommend RealChute

Before you Launch:

  1. Select the remote guidance unit and click Control From Here, so that your rocket thinks it it pointing in the right direction
  2. Select the retrorockets and click Lock Gimbal to disable thrust vectoring. Thrust vectoring doesn't work well when the rocket engines are so close the craft's center of mass. If you don't do this, and you use SAS or Mechjeb to land, you'll likely tumble out of control
  3. Launch!
